The Kansas City Royals’ Alex Gordon runs to first base against the Tampa Bay Rays at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on July 25, 2008.

I shot the Kansas City Royals for both Icon Sports Media from 2000-07 and Major League Baseball from 2007-08. I covered Alex Gordon, the Royals’ first round draft pick in 2005, as he played his first two seasons at Kauffman Stadium in 2007-08.

Since 2009, Gordon has become an MLB superstar as the Royals’ former third baseman and now their left fielder. He has won four Gold Glove Awards, three Fielding Bible Awards, and one Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Gordon is a quiet, humble guy. While other Royals’ fans have embraced flashier players such as Eric Hosmer, Salvador Perez, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar, it was rewarding for me to see Gordon win his first World Series championship when the Royals defeated the New York Mets on November 1, 2015.
