Patty and I joined Premier Martial Arts in the summer of 2013 to learn Krav Maga, an Israeli military self-defense system that mixes techniques from boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai, and jiu-jitsu. Although Krav Maga students try to avoid confrontation, we are taught skills to finish a fight quickly with vicious attacks to the most vulnerable parts of the body including the face, throat, ribs, and groin.
This belt test was a tough one. Our instructors pushed us through a four hour class. We had to perform wrist grab defenses, shoulder throws, hip throws, and defenses against an attacker with a knife or a stick. We also had to demonstrate several kickboxing combinations of punches, elbows, body blows and knees. Finally, we had to break a board with a tornado axe kick in front of the class.
We passed our test in September. Now, we’re working towards our 2nd red belts.
