President Barack Obama visited the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, Kansas on January 22, 2015 to speak to middle class Americans about paid sick leave, child care credits and tuition-free community college. The last time a sitting president visited KU was William Taft in 1911.

Obama began his brief visit to Kansas by meeting with Gov. Sam Brownback in Topeka, Kansas. Then, he traveled to Lawrence where he spent the night at a Holiday Inn. The next morning, Obama visited children at a Head Start school and then he met with the KU men’s basketball team. Finally, he delivered his speech to approximately 8,000 Jayhawks in Anschutz Sports Pavilion.

Following his speech, President Obama returned to Forbes Field in Topeka and greeted some of the Kansas National Guard soldiers. Then, he boarded Air Force One back to Washington D.C.
