K-State’s Ross Kivett throws to first base during a portrait session for a poster.
K-State’s four seniors are featured on the 2014 baseball team poster.
Recently, I spent a few hours with K-State’s catcher Blair DeBord, second baseman Ross Kivett, third baseman R.J. Santigate and pitcher Jared Moore for the 2014 baseball team poster shoot.
For the portraits, I put each player at their position and asked them to take practice. Kivett and Santigate chased ground balls, Moore pitched to DeBord, and DeBord threw to Kivett at second base. I laid on the FieldTurf at Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas and shot each athlete with a wide angle so I could get some cool looks that I could never get during an actual game.
Kivett, the 2013 Big 12 Conference player of the year, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 10th round of the MLB Draft last year but decided to forego his professional career so he could return for his senior season and help K-State defend its 2013 Big 12 baseball championship.
My sincere appreciation to K-State’s graphic designer (and resident creative genius) Ron Cook for directing the shoot, then taking my photos and creating such a visually stunning work of art.
