Recently, I shot some portraits of Nike heptathlete Ryann Krais for some promotional materials. She was the NCAA Heptathlon National Champion in 2011. She is one of seven women selected to The Thorpe Cup team, an international track and field competition between the United States and Germany, in Chula Vista, California, on July 27-28, 2013. Athletes receive points based upon their performances in men’s decathlon or women’s heptathlon. The top five men’s scores and the top three women’s scores are added together to determine the overall individual team winners.
The decathlon consists of the 100 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meter run, 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500 meter run. The heptathlon consists of the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meter dash, long jump, javelin, and 800 meter run.
