Recently, I attended a church service at the Granada Theatre in Lawrence, Kansas.

The Granada Theater is one of the premier concert venues in the midwest. It was originally built as a vaudeville theater in 1928, then it was renovated into a movie theater in 1934. It was renovated again as a concert venue in 1993. Several national rock acts have played the Granada such as Smashing Pumpkins, Ben Folds, The Flaming Lips, The Strokes, Weezer and Arcade Fire.

Velocity Church held their praise and worship night at the Granada Theater on August 26, 2012. Velocity is a non-denominational, Christ-centered church in Lawrence. The evening was filled with great music, a short message from pastor Justin Jenkins, several baptisms and communion. It was joyous to see so many people celebrating God’s goodness in a such a landmark location.
