Recently, I covered the Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the Big 12 Conference at the University of Oklahoma’s John Jacobs Track Complex in Norman, Oklahoma on May 13-15, 2011. Although the temperatures were a little cool and I suffered some windburn, it was a good time. The highlight of the event was hanging out with the University of Kansas Athletics Department photographers, Jeff and Laura Jacobsen. Jeff had just returned from teaching at Rich Clarkson’s Sports Photography Workshop in Colorado the day before the track and field championships, yet they arrived at John Jacobs Track Complex on Friday morning in time to shoot women’s javelin, the first event of the meet. Jeff and Laura are two of the most sincere people I know and while their presence makes any event more fun, their talent inspires me to make better photos.

Scott, you surely did make some fine photographs, as always. Laura and I hope you know the respect is mutual. It is a pleasure to work anytime with you thanks to your skill, your dedication and your realization that none of us would be anything if not for the Lord blessing us so richly. We look forward to seeing you over the weekend for KU – KSU baseball.
