Imagine my shock on the morning of March 24, 2011 when I looked out the back window of my house and saw a wall of flames across the street. Instinctively, I grabbed my cameras and rushed out into my back yard. Fortunately, the fire was nothing more than a controlled burn by the City of Lawrence, Kansas Parks and Recreation Department to help limit the overgrowth of brush in the several pockets of natural prairie grass around town. The grass is burned every spring.
