Artists use chalk, pastels and water to create their artwork on the pavement.

Pastels litter the pavement at the Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival.

My wife and I spent Father’s Day at the Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival at Crown Center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Dozens of professional and amateur artists use chalk, pastels and water to create works of art on the pavement around the shopping district. The artwork only lasts a few hours because cleaning crews remove them with high-pressure hoses after the event.
