A vehicle’s taillights streak past the prairie fires in the Kansas Flint Hills on I-70.
I’ve been traveling all over the state of Kansas for weeks on photo assignments. Recently, I was driving through the rolling Flint Hills in central Kansas one night. The prairie was glowing red from ribbons of fire that flickered in the darkness. Every spring, the ranchers burn the grasslands to help limit the overgrowth of brush and trees and restore the natural vegetation for cattle and other wildlife. It was an amazing scene and I stopped at a rest area on I-70 to shoot photos.
